March for Better Development

Submitted by TPA Editor on Tue, 28/07/2015 - 1:11pm

For the information of members who feel this issue is one applicable to the whole of inner city Brisbane. Members might also want to show support for the community of West End by attending the event.

City Planning - not City Cramming

Enforce Council Plans – Make Better Ones

We want
• Good open space
• Sunlight, not shadows
• No jungle of highrise
• Improved public transport, not gridlock
• Council respect for our suburbs
• Genuine community dialogue

Healthy Waterways

Submitted by Ben Pritchard on Mon, 27/07/2015 - 10:47am

Healthy Waterways, a quasi-governmental organisation (QUANGO), has issued the attached email survey requesting feedback from anyone who uses, enjoys or has an opinion about the health and usefulness of the waterways in Southeast Queensland.

We will discuss at the August meeting whether TPA should make a response to the submission, but if anyone wished to complete the survey in their own capacity and identity, please follow the link in the attachment.

Thank you to Stephen Harper for bringing the survey to the attention of TPA.

REMINDER: Meeting tonight see agenda below.

We know it will be cool at 7pm tonight but this meeting is very important as we want your thoughts on the changing of the local government electoral boudaries which may see Teneriffe and Newstead come under Central Ward.

Dogs on cross river ferries

Submitted by Ben Pritchard on Fri, 10/07/2015 - 2:44pm

At the Teneriffe Festival on Saturday 4 July, the most popular comment posted on the TPA comments board was a request/suggestion that dogs should be permitted to travel, with their owners, on the cross river ferry from Bulimba to Teneriffe.

I have asked Translink to consider making a (small) change to its network-wide ban on animals, except guide dogs, travelling on public transport. The email reply - copied below -  says that the request will be referred to the appropriate committee of Translink (State Government) for consideration.

Telstra mobile antennae

Submitted by Ben Pritchard on Thu, 09/07/2015 - 12:23pm

I have been sent a letter of notification from Telstra, which advises the community of plans to install new antennae on Goldsborough Place, 39 Vernon Terrace. The letter asks for community feedback to be sent to the company by 27 July 2015. We will discuss this at the July meeting - Wednesday 15th, 7:00pm - so if you have comments or interest in this matter, please come along to the meeting on Wednesday.

The attached photomontage shows how the antennae will look from the Vernon Terrace side of the site. Similar antennae are proposed for the river elevation of the building.

Footprints site, 105-109 Commercial Road: Response from Cllr Vicki Howard

Submitted by Ben Pritchard on Thu, 09/07/2015 - 10:22am

Please see the attached email I received from Cllr Vicki Howard, Deputy Chairman of the Development Assessment and Neighbourhood Planning Committee, Brisbane City Council, in response to the submission made by TPA to the proposed development of the Footprints site, corner of Commercial Road and Florence Street.

As you can read, she believes the proposed development is too tall for the site and the neighbourhood of Teneriffe. She will convey TPA's concerns to the Committee Chairman.
