Meeting opened at 7.00pm

APOLOGIES:

ATTENDANCE:

17 residents, members and committee members were present.

PREVIOUS MINUTES: Accepted.

MATTERS ARISING:

As a result of the AGM held at the last meeting, the committee remained the same with exception of a change of Treasurer.  Roger Armfield stepped down and Michael Fritschi became the new treasurer.  As a result it was not possible to finalise the annual Financial Report.  This will be presented at the next meeting.

AGENDA ITEMS

Correspondence & Media

  • “Meet the Candidates”.  This received favourable media reports in the local newspaper and the Village News together with several positive emails from TPA Members.
  • ANZAC Day.  The TPA has once again been invited to participate.  (Roger Armfield to organize a wreath and to lay the wreath on the day.

Clean Up Australia Day

  • Cameron Perkins reported on the success of the day.  There were 43 participants and the event was followed by a sausage sizzle generously sponsored by the Village News with sausages provided by Rayners Meats.  Although the amount of rubbish collected was down on last year (a good sign), it was obvious that the legislation banning smoking indoors had contributed to a huge increase in the number of cigarette butts collected, particularly from outside office buildings and food outlets.  Discussion ensued on how to attack this problem in the future.

Membership & Communications update

  • The Secretary briefed the meeting on the need for increased financial membership.  The need to cover expenses such as for compulsory insurance to ‘The Shed’ was outlined in a letter sent to all registered members by the President earlier in the week.
  • He advised that due to weaknesses in the current website, in particular the encouragement of usernames, the committee had decided to communicate with the membership primarily through Facebook and via our email address teneriffeprogress@gmail.com  It is hoped to set up a website more suited to the TPA in the near future.

Activities and Actions for 2016

  • Contact with BCC to improve cleaning/bin clearing within the suburb
  • A “Pets on Ferries” Rally to encourage Translink to permit pets on the cross-river mono-hull ferries
  • Increased involvement with the Teneriffe Festival including assistance where possible to the committee and encouragement of community feedback.  (Ms. Jillian Kingsford Smith {Chairperson Teneriffe Festival Inc.} spoke to the meeting.  She is contactable via Facebook and at hello@teneriffefestival.org.  The festival will be held, 2nd July.
  • ANZAC Day involvement as above
  • Promotion of “Public Art” projects
  • The “Guerilla Gardeners” project
  • Monitoring and representation with respect to DA’s and their appropriateness to the area
  • Community BBQ possibly in conjunction with the local Scouts

ANY OTHER BUSINESS

Fund Raising Function

  • Roger Armfield suggested raising funds through a luncheon or dinner and volunteered his services to set it in motion.  Report at the next meeting.

Vote of Thanks

  • Michael Hawke proposed a vote of thanks to Roger Armfield for his dedication and service to the TPA and the committee, particularly as treasurer.  He is one of the TPA’s founding members and remains on the committee.

The meeting was closed at 7.50pm.
